Flash rust is the thin oxide film forming on freshly blasted steel before the first coat. A surface accepted at SP 10 in the morning may no longer meet that grade by afternoon. The blast-to-coat window is a specification item, not a scheduling detail.

Slurry wear: reading the mechanism before choosing a material
Three mechanisms damage equipment in slurry service, and they call for opposite properties. Sliding abrasion favours hardness, impact favours toughness, erosion-corrosion favours chemical stability. Selecting for the wrong one produces a material that fails faster than what it replaced.
