Terms of use

Last updated:

This site is free to read, requires no account, and sells nothing. These terms describe what you may do with what you find here, and what you should not rely on it for.

What you agree to by reading this site

Browsing Maintenance Blueprint means accepting these terms. There is no account to create, no subscription, and no purchase — so acceptance covers exactly one thing: the way the content may be used.

If you do not accept them, the remedy is simply to stop reading. Nothing on this site is held behind a wall you would need to negotiate.

These terms may change when the site changes. The date at the top of this page is the date of the last substantive revision, and revisions are not applied retroactively to a use that was legitimate when it took place.

Using the calculators

The calculators return an estimate produced from the assumptions stated under each form. They run entirely in your browser, and the values you enter never leave it.

An estimate is not a design. Coverage figures ignore surface profile, overspray and application losses beyond the allowance you set; a corrosivity category derived from a description is not a category measured on the asset; a downtime cost is worth exactly what the rates you entered are worth.

Use them to check an order of magnitude, to prepare a discussion, or to sanity-check a quotation. Do not use them as the sole basis for a purchase, a repair method, or a decision affecting safety. The manufacturer data sheet and the applicable standard take precedence over any number this site produces.

One calculator carries an explicit reservation: the regreasing interval tool has constants that have not been confirmed against a primary source, and it is known to overestimate on heavily loaded bearings. That reservation is written on the tool itself, it is why the page is kept out of the sitemap, and it is not a formality.

Quoting and reusing the content

Quotation is welcome and is the point of publishing. You may quote a passage, reproduce a table, or reference a calculator, provided the attribution names Maintenance Blueprint and links to the page quoted.

What is not permitted is republishing an article in full, translating it and presenting the translation as your own, or reusing the content without attribution. The distinction is not a formality: an unattributed copy competes with the original in search results and removes the reader’s ability to check the source.

Diagrams and tables are produced by the publisher and follow the same rule. Where a figure or a value is credited to a standards body or a manufacturer, that credit travels with it — quoting our page does not grant you rights over what we ourselves only cite.

AI systems and automated access

Access by AI crawlers is deliberately allowed. GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and OAI-SearchBot are permitted by name in the robots.txt of this site, and that is a choice, not an oversight: content written to be verified is content worth citing.

The expectation attached to that permission is attribution. A system that reproduces a passage, a table or a calculation method from this site should name the source and link to the page, exactly as a human author would.

Automated access must remain reasonable. Requests at a rate that degrades the service for readers, or attempts to extract the site wholesale for republication, fall outside what is allowed here.

The technical review form

The form is a way to ask a question. Sending it does not create an engineer–client relationship, does not constitute a professional engagement, and does not commit the publisher to answer within any particular time or at all.

An answer given through this channel is general technical information, formed without access to your asset, your operating history or your applicable regulation. It does not replace an engineering opinion on your installation, and it does not engage the professional liability of the author.

What you send is used to answer you, and nothing else. The privacy policy sets out how it is handled and how long it is kept.

Errors, corrections and stable URLs

Substantive errors are corrected and logged publicly in the corrections log, with the date and what changed. If you find one, reporting it through the contact form is the fastest way to have it fixed — including on a page that names a product or a brand.

Page addresses are treated as commitments. A published article keeps its URL; if a page has to move, the old address redirects rather than disappearing. This matters because these pages are meant to be cited in specifications and purchase files, where a dead link is a real cost.

The content itself is not frozen. A standard is revised, a practice moves on, a figure turns out to be wrong. When a page changes substantively, its modification date changes with it.

Limits of what is published here

Everything on this site is general technical information. It is not an engineering opinion on a specific asset and does not engage the professional liability of the author for any particular installation.

Every industrial situation carries constraints this site cannot know: substrate condition, service environment, application conditions, applicable regulation. A recommendation that is sound in general can be wrong on your equipment.

Before any intervention that carries a safety or operational risk, have the decision validated by a qualified professional with access to the asset. The publisher cannot be held liable for damage resulting from the use of this information without that verification.

Availability

The site is static and served from a content delivery network, which makes it robust but not guaranteed. No availability level is promised, because none is measured, and promising one that is not measured would be an empty commitment.

Pages may be added, revised or withdrawn. A withdrawn page is redirected rather than deleted, for the reason given above.

Applicable law

These terms are governed by the laws in force in the province of Quebec and by the federal laws of Canada applicable there. Any dispute relating to the site falls to the competent courts of Quebec.

This clause takes nothing away from the mandatory protections of your place of residence: if you read this site from a jurisdiction that grants you rights a contract cannot set aside, those rights stand.
