Corrections log

Every substantive correction made to a published article is logged here, with the original error and the fix.

Only substantive corrections are logged: a wrong figure, a misquoted standard, a revised recommendation. Style and wording edits are not — logging them would bury the ones that matter.

  1. August 24, 2026

Error: The page claimed that "up to 80% of premature coating failures are directly attributable to inadequate surface preparation", introduced as "industry data consistently shows". No study was cited, and none could be traced. The same figure also appeared in the page summary.

Fix: The figure was removed from both the summary and the body rather than re-sourced, and the paragraph now explains why: the claim circulates widely, is quoted from memory, and traces to no published study. The argument is made instead from what the standards actually establish — SSPC-SP 6 and SSPC-SP 10 are separate grades because residual mill scale, rust and contaminant change what a coating can bond to, and manufacturer datasheets state a minimum grade below which their own performance claims no longer apply.
