Cookie policy
Last updated:
This site sets two cookies, and only if you accept them. Nothing is placed in your browser before that click, and withdrawing takes one click on this page.
Nothing is set before you accept
No cookie is placed and no measurement script is loaded until you click "Accept" in the banner. If you decline, or simply ignore the banner, no analytics request is ever sent from your browser.
This is enforced in the code rather than promised in prose: the analytics component is not present in the HTML at all, and is injected only in response to the consent event fired by the banner. With JavaScript disabled, the banner never appears and no measurement can take place.
Netlify, the host, keeps technical server logs — IP address, browser, page requested — for security and availability. That is inherent to serving a web page, uses no cookie, and does not build a profile.
What the measurement cookies are for
If you accept, Google Analytics 4 loads, operated by Google LLC (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA). The property used by this site is G-639GRRETZ1.
The purpose is narrow: knowing which pages are actually read, so editorial effort goes where it is useful. Google advertising signals and ad personalisation are switched off on this property — the site has no use for them, and leaving them on would widen the compliance surface for nothing.
Legal basis: your consent, and nothing else — Quebec Law 25 s. 8.1 and GDPR art. 6(1)(a).
The address reported to Google is truncated to the page path. The query string is removed before any event is sent, which is what keeps calculator values out of analytics when a share link is in the address bar.
Withdrawing your consent
Law 25 requires that withdrawing be as easy as giving. The button at the bottom of this page clears your stored choice and deletes the measurement cookies already in place, in one click. It appears only if a choice is actually stored in this browser — a button that did nothing would be worse than no button.
You can also clear the site data in your browser, which removes the same entries. And Google offers an add-on that blocks Google Analytics on every site, at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Withdrawing does not remove data already collected. It stops any further collection. To ask about data already held, use the contact form; the privacy policy explains how such requests are handled.
Calculator share links carry your values
Each calculator has a "Share" button. It writes the values you entered into the address bar so that the link reproduces exactly the case you calculated. This is deliberate and useful — it is how a result gets attached to a purchase file or sent to a colleague.
The consequence is worth stating plainly: once you send that link, those values travel with it. Whoever receives it sees them, and they appear in the host server logs when the page is opened. On the downtime cost calculator in particular, those values include the labour and production rates you entered.
Nothing is written to the address bar until you click that button, and the analytics reporting is truncated to the page path so those values are not sent to Google. If you would rather not share the numbers, share the page address without its query string.
Third parties
Google LLC, for analytics, and only after your consent. Netlify, Inc., as host, for serving the pages. There is no advertising network, no social widget, no embedded video, no font loaded from a third-party server, and no captcha — the contact form uses a hidden honeypot field instead, so nothing is sent to an external service for verification.
Fonts are self-hosted. That is a privacy decision as much as a performance one: a font served from a third-party domain reveals every page view to that domain, with no consent step and no way to withdraw.
When this page changes
This page describes what the site does, not what it intends. If a cookie, a measurement tool or a third-party service is added, this page changes in the same commit as the code, and the date at the top changes with it.
The inventory below is generated from the site configuration rather than typed by hand, which is what keeps it from drifting away from reality between two revisions.
Cookie inventory
Set only after you accept. All first-party: they are placed on the domain you are visiting, not on a Google domain — which is why the withdrawal button can delete them.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes one browser from another, so two visits are not counted as two people. | 2 years |
| _ga_639GRRETZ1 | Google Analytics 4 | Holds the session state for this specific property. | 2 years |
Local storage — what is not a cookie
These entries stay in your browser and are never transmitted to a server: no request carries them. That is the technical reason your calculator entries do not leave your machine.
| Key | Purpose |
|---|---|
| mb-consent | Your consent choice, so the banner does not reappear on every page. |
| mb-coating-calculator | Your last entries in the coating coverage calculator. |
| mb-corrosivity-selector | Your last entries in the corrosivity category selector. |
| mb-downtime-calculator | Your last entries in the downtime cost calculator. |
| mb-regreasing-calculator | Your last entries in the regreasing interval calculator. |
| mb-surface-prep-selector | Your last entries in the surface preparation selector. |
Withdraw your consent
Your current choice is stored in this browser. Withdrawing it clears that choice and deletes any measurement cookies already set.
