Dry sand / rubber wheel abrasion test (ASTM G65)

A laboratory test in which dry sand is fed between a specimen and a rotating rubber wheel, reporting volume loss. It compares materials fairly within low-stress sliding abrasion, and it is the figure most wear liner data sheets quote.

G65 measures one mechanism. Within sliding abrasion it ranks materials honestly and repeatably, which is what makes it useful on a data sheet.

What it does not measure is impact resistance, and that is precisely the property that decides a drop zone. A material selected on its G65 number alone has been selected on one of the four constraints that matter. For particle impingement, ASTM G76 is the corresponding method.
