Composite repair

A laminate of reinforcement and resin bonded to a pipe so that it carries hoop stress in place of the wall that has been lost. Its thickness is derived from the defect, the design conditions and the qualified laminate properties — which is why the calculation governs and the brand does not.

The word that matters in the term is not composite but repair. On a line that retains pressure, a bonded laminate becomes part of the pressure boundary, and ISO 24817 treats it accordingly: a stated design life, a defect it was dimensioned for, qualified laminate properties, and an applicator whose qualification is evidenced.

That is what separates it from a wrap bought by the roll. The same materials, applied without a design case, restore appearance rather than capability — and the mechanism that removed the wall is still running underneath.
